Decks & Pergolas
Deck & Pergola Foundations in Chilliwack
A deck is only as good as what it stands on. Postech helical screw piles are steel shafts with a helix at the bottom. They are driven into firm ground, so your deck, patio or pergola rests on a foundation that does not depend on poured footings, a dug-out trench or a concrete pour that has to cure.
We install deck and pergola foundations for homeowners and builders in Chilliwack and across the Fraser Valley. Most residential jobs are finished in a day, and often in just a few hours for a deck.

Why screw piles for decks & pergolas
Ready to build on right away
There is no concrete to cure, so framing can usually start as soon as the piles are in.
Stays level and tight to the house
Piles reach firm ground well below the surface soil that swells, shrinks and settles. Pile heights are adjusted in the field, so a deck can be brought level even on sloped ground.
Built to resist frost heave
The thermal foam inside the shaft insulates against the cold of frozen ground, which is what pushes ordinary footings upward. Our decks carry a limited lifetime warranty against frost heave when installed by a certified Postech dealer.
Far less mess
No concrete trucks, no wheelbarrows of mix and far less digging, so your lawn and landscaping take much less of a beating than they would with concrete footings.
The right pile for the job
For most decks and pergolas the pile is the Postech P238: a 60.3 mm (2⅜") shaft with helix blades from 8" to 16", with a capacity of up to 15,000 lbs per pile. Heavier covered structures and additions use larger sizes from the range.
The size and number of piles are chosen for the load your structure will carry and the soil it sits on, and our installation equipment monitors torque as each pile goes in, so we can confirm it reaches the strength it was chosen for. See the P238 spec sheet for the full details.
Built for Fraser Valley ground
Ground in the Fraser Valley changes from one property to the next. Much of the valley floodplain is sand and gravel, which holds piles very well. In the clay and silt common across Chilliwack farmland, the piles anchor below the layer that moves with the seasons. Near Agassiz and Cultus Lake, where soils can be organic, piles reach the stable ground beneath.
Because piles go in mechanically, wet weather and cold snaps do not stop the work the way they stop a concrete pour. Heavy rain or flooding can still affect site access, so we confirm timing with you before the crew arrives.
How installation works
- 01
Mark and check
We mark the pile locations and verify elevation points before the first pile goes in.
- 02
Install and monitor
Each pile is driven in with our equipment, which monitors torque so we can confirm it reaches the soil strength it was chosen for.
- 03
Set to height
Piles are cut or adjusted to the exact height, so your structure starts level, even on sloped ground.
- 04
Build right away
There is no concrete to cure, so your crew can start building as soon as the piles are in.
What a typical project looks like
A deck foundation starts with a few details from you: the location, a rough description of the deck and a few photos of the site. We reply within 24 hours with next steps and arrange a site visit if one is needed. From your deck plan we work out the pile positions, sizes and depths.
On installation day the crew marks the pile locations, installs each pile with torque monitored, sets the piles to height and checks the levels. With no forms, no digging out of footings and no concrete, there is little to clean up, and your framing crew can usually start straight away.
Planning your project
- Decide the size, height and layout of the deck. The pile positions follow your framing plan.
- Tell us where the deck meets the house and where the beams and posts will land, so the layout works with your framing.
- Check with your municipality about permit and drawing requirements for your deck. We can supply engineering documentation when it is required.
- Have underground utilities located before any ground work. BC 1 Call is a free service.
- Mention slopes, soft spots, tight gates or limited access when you send your details, so the crew arrives with the right equipment.
“The crew had our deck foundation installed in under 4 hours. No concrete trucks, no mess, no waiting. Absolutely the best experience we've had with any contractor.”
